Plan Your Dog Adventure

Are You Ready To Plan Your Dog Adventure?

Here at the furSmiths, we call them PawVentures™! What’s a PawVenture you ask? A PawVenture is any experience – big or small – which enriches your pup’s mind, body and soul! As a wonderful side bonus, the mental, sensory and physical activities you experience with your dog helps you deepen your bond and connection!

PawVentures™ also strengthen your dog’s trust as they learn to relax and enjoy – as they see that you have everything under control!

Need Ideas for Awesome PawVentures™?

Here are Some our Favorite Dog Adventures To Get You Started!

  • A Dog Walk! Or, as we like to call them… Walkies (aka going on a sniffari) in your Neighborhood or Favorite or New Local Walking Place!
  • At Home Dog Enrichment Games. Catching the Ball, Frisbee, Hide and Sniff Games, Agility…
  • A Dog Outing to your Local Park, Path, Garden Store. Google “Dog Friendly Near Me” and see what pops up! Places like Home Depot, Armstrong Garden Center and some Botanical Gardens are wonderful for Dog Friendly Outings! We WUV Niguel Botanical Preserve (where Scooby’s Dedication Bench is), Heaps Peak Arboretum and South Coast Botanic Garden (has 1 dog friendly Sunday each month)!
  • Dog Training While on Walkies. Yes! Training CAN be Fun, enriching and bonding for both you and your dog! Do refresher trainings in your yard or on walks. Try them in group settings. Or, learn new commands and skills! (We’re going to learm “middle” and “touch” this year)!
  • Inviting Dogs and People Fwiends to Walk With You! This is super for socialization to help build new friendships for your pup. If your pup is unsure about other dogs that’s ok! Establish 6ft leash, no retractable leashes, no sniffing or touching (unless the dogs agree on their own) rules, etc. This way EVERYBODY can relax and just enjoy the walk without worrying about surprises. This is exactly why we love our local, structured pack walks. Everyone is on the same page to just exist and enjoy together!
  • Dog Friendly Nature Walks. Go Bird Watching, Watch Waves, Sniff Flowers, Listen to Nature Sounds!
  • Exploring Historical Landmarks Near You or around your Destinations. You’ll be amazed in what you will find! Check out the list on Wikipedia, National Park Service, HMDB.org and NPS for starters! Also Google “Historical Makers in (Your State or City)”. You may get as addicted to history as Mom!
  • A Dog Friendly Day Trip. Google “Dog Friendly” and include the area you want to visit for a FULL DAY of PawVentures! Check out our FAVOWITE Dog Friendly places in and around California in our Scoobylife Dog Friendly Map!
  • Explore a National Park! Do you have a National Park Nearby? Check out some of the Dog Friendly National Park Rules and Locations at NPS and NPCA!
  • Dog Friendly Road Trips. Plan an Overnighter or Longer PawCation (invite your Bestie Fwiends)! Our Scoobylife PawVentures™ Planners (Etsy) and Journals are Purrfect to get you excited!
  • Have an Impromptu Doggy Dance Pawty at Home. WE WUV dancing at home with Mom! What’s your Favowite Dance Song?
  • Watch a Sunrise or Sunset. Just “be” and soak in the beauty together.
  • Take Your Dog for a Scenic Drive (and stop and sniff)
  • Go on a Short, Easy Dog Friendly Hike. Pack Water for All, a Collapsible Dog Bowl, light snacks and enjoy!
  • Try a Longer, more Strenuous Dog Friendly Hike. Work your way into bigger hikes (if it’s a goal). Be sure to check in with your vet first! We prefer to go with one or two other people or fur fams or a pack group for safety reasons (injuries, wildlife, etc.)
  • Go Leaf Peepin’ and enjoy the smells and views of beautiful Fall Color changes! It’s the BEST!
  • Search for Wildflowers and enjoy the views! P.S. watch out for rattlesnakes because they love wildflower locations too!
  • Search for Murals and Unique Attractions. Many cities have old and new murals on barns, buildings, walls, etc., and other unique attractions! Mom hasn’t found a good database for murals yet. So, google “murals in (area you want)” and “unique attractions in (area you want)” to get you started. We also really like AtlasObscura to find cool things that may also be dog friendly! (That’s how we found this really cool bird house park just down the street from us)!
  • Visit the Pet Store or Bakery. Pick out a Toy or Treat while you’re there!
  • Dine at a Dog Friendly Restaurant, Winery or Brewery. Some restaurants will even prepare plain chicken, steak and veggies for your pup!
  • Investigate Ghost Towns! Did you know there are Ghost Towns almost everywhere?! Scooby’s first Ghost Town was Bodie, CA and we just went to Calico, CA! We WUV Ghost Towns! Check out Wikipedia to start planning!! We really love their Map too! If you live in the Western US this our Absolute FAVOWITE book about Ghost Towns in the West.
  • Visit Labyrinths! Yes! It’s a thing! If you like Labyrinths, there’s actually a World-Wide Labyrinth Directory! Some are out in the open and easy to visit with your dog! Always call or investigate first!
  • Go GeoCaching! Do you like treasure hunting? Geocaching is sort of like that – all around the world! The “treasure” is the ability to check off that you found the hidden item, put it back and head off to your next hunt! It’s pretty fun and usually in places you may not have explored before! You can also add the app to your phone to make hunting on the go super easy!
  • Visit a Dog Friendly Pumpkin Patch! This is on our bucket list to do! Here’s a great starter list of Dog Friendly pumpkin patches in the USA but also just google Pumpkin patch for the location you’re interested in and call them to see if they are dog friendly!
  • Practice Yoga and Meditation at Home! Don’t be surprised that once your put down your yoga mat or meditation pillow that all of your fur kids crowd around you! Our absolute Favowite Yogi – Paws Down – is Adriene (& Benji)! Check out Yoga With Adriene’s YouTube Channel! Be sure to give Meditation a try too! We WUV our Fwiend, Martin Hewlett and his Calming Anxiety Channel! Martin has a variety of Meditations ranging from preparing for sleep, deep healing and quick 5 minute Mantras like this one:
