The Central California Coast and Surrounding Area is Wonderfully Dog Friendly if you know what to do. We WUV so many places in and near Coastal Central California! It’s close enough from So Cal for a day trip (that would be a very long day)! Or, better yet, at least a one evening overnighter so you can enjoy a sunset and sunrise (ore more)! Although the Central Coast is close, it’s just far enough to feel like a big vacation!
When to Go:
“Winter” months (November through April) are our favorite time to visit the Central Coast. The Summer Heat is over and Thanksgiving marks the beginning of amazing dog-friendly days and evenings before the summer tourist season begins in May. Summer days can get pretty blazing hot – which is no fun for any pup.
Places we WUV:
1. Santa Barbara: Air BnB’ing at Caza de Coco
2. San Luis Obispo: RV Camping in Montana de Oro
3. Paso Robles: Dog-Friendly Wine tasting
On Our List:
Big Sur
Riverside Campground and Cabins is Dog Friendly
Dog-Friendly Reservations in the Campground but not in Cabins Big Sur Campground & Cabins
Soon to be Dog Friendly Big Sur River Inn
(Try to include in your Paso Robles or Montana de Oro trip since it’s enroute via the 101 Highway)

Mom says Carmel is practically the DOG FRIENDLY CAPITAL of California. (It’s also the furthest away from us). Spend the day strolling the downtown, dine at dog-friendly restaurants and stay in your fav dog-friendly hotel or airbnb. Carmel is on our Pawcation list for sure!
