What To Pack For Your Dog on a Road Trip

Planning ahead makes new walkies, day trips and uncharted adventures so much more enjoyable! Take the time before you go anywhere new to prepare so you can have the best PawVenture with your fur kid! Do you have a Dog Car Travel Essentials Day Trip Checklist?

Preparing for your new dog adventure helps prevent mishaps like finding out you forgot something essential or that can’t get good cell service / internet to find the place you wanted to explore, or that you left your camera batteries, sd cards (you get the picture) at home… Um, not that it’s ever happened to us! Ha

What Do You Need When Traveling With a Dog?

Mom likes to prepare for a longer day than planned – because that’s usually what happens! So, it’s great ot have the “bonus” things you may need simply because you planned ahead!

Following is our of what to pack in your Dog’s Travel Bag for Regular or Full day outings…

Dog & Human Snacks / Lunch

Pack more than you think you will need – you’ll be happy you did!

Dog & Human Water

Pack enough filtered water from home to take with you on your adventure and EXTRA for when you get back to car. Check out our new Sport Bottles and Canteens with Advanced Water Filters so you can take home water and refill on the go! Safer water, better for your wallet AND better for the planet!

Dog Backpack?

So you pups can help carry stuff too! (If appropriate for your dog’s age and health)

Extra Leash & Collar

Keep one in the car – you never know when or why you’re going to need it! Inevitably we run into a loose dog who’s owners can’t catch!

Car Refrigerator or Traditional Cooler

Mom and Scooby switched over to the electric coolers on their Eastern Sierra trips furever! Ours plug into the car cigarette lighter and have an adaptor to plug into the wall if you need. Game Changer!

Dog Bowl

We WUV our Scoobylife XL Collapsible Dog Bowl! Just hook and go!

Poop Bags

Camera / Phone Camera

You will never regret snapping those pics! Best Memories EVER!

Human Backpack or Mini Lens bag

A Backpack is perfect for All Day Adventures to keep all your “stuff” in one location. If you’re doing a shorter adventure, Mom WUVS to use her smaller lens case to keep treaties, snacks and camera cleaners in! (and extra Camera Lens if you want)!

Napkins / Roll of Paper Towels

Wet Wipes

Large Towel

Car Seat Cover

We use 2 dog seat covers and layer them! (Just in case the top on gets super dirty or there’s an “accident”). A dog seat cover with a waterproof lining is great as one of your cover. If you have a 3rd dog seat cover pack it in the trunk! Us furSmiths have been known to need it on rare occasion.

A Blanket

These are perfect for unexpected chilly weather, to get cozy in the car or to use for a picnic! We always keep 2 Mexican Blankies and have used for all of the above!

First Aid Kit (and any Necessary Medication)

A Human First Aid Kit is always important to keep in the car for people and will suffice for your dog until you can get to any needed medical care. You never know when you might need it.

We keep this one in our trunk:
