What Do You Need When Traveling With a Dog?

Mom likes to prepare for a longer day than planned – because that’s usually what happens! So, it’s great ot have the “bonus” things you may need or want because you planned ahead!

Following is our list of what to pack in your Dog’s Travel Bag for Regular and extra Full day outings…

Dog & Human Snacks / Lunch

Pack more than you think you will need – you’ll be happy you did!

Dog & Human Water

Pack enough filtered water from home to take with you on your adventure and EXTRA for when you return to your car for the final leg home. Check out our Scoobylife Sport Bottles and Canteens with Advanced Water Filters so you can take water from home and refill if available on the go! Safer water – better for your wallet AND planet!

Dog Backpack?

So you pups can help carry water and stuff too! (If appropriate for your dog’s age and health).

Extra Leash, Haraness, Collar and Dog Gear

Keep an extra set of everything in your car at all times – you never know when or why you’re going to need it! Inevitably something rips, breaks or we run into a loose dog who needs help getting home.

Here’s a list of all our FAV Gear

Car Refrigerator or Traditional Cooler

Mom and Scooby switched over to electric coolers for their Eastern Sierra trips. Game Changer! Ours plug into the car cigarette lighter and we have an adaptor to plug into the wall if you need. It’s way better than dealing with ice packs or ice!

Dog Bowl

We WUV our Scoobylife XL Collapsible Dog Bowl! Just hook and go!

Poop Bags – you never have too many!

Camera / Phone

You will never regret snapping those pics! Best Memories EVER! We use both our Sony a6000 for those extra special pics and selfies (with the remote of course) and the backup phone pics are a fun bonus! Sony has so many newer, fabulous mirrorless cameras but people still come up to Mom and say they wish they had never sold their a6000! We WUV it!

Human Backpack or Mini Lens bag

A Backpack is perfect for All Day Adventures to keep all of your “stuff” in one location. If you’re doing a shorter adventure, however, Mom WUVS to use her camer / lens case to keep treaties, snacks, an extra lens and camera cleaner in!

Napkins / Roll of Paper Towels – thank us when you get back 🙂

Wet Wipes

Large Towel

2 – 3 Car Seat Covers

We use 2 dog seat covers on the seat! (Just in case the top on gets super dirty or there’s an “accident”). Use a dog seat cover with a waterproof lining as the top cover. If you have a 3rd dog seat cover, pack it in the trunk! It’s rare but us furSmiths have been known to need all 3 on rare occasions.

Pro Tip: Keep a couple of XL Garbage bags in your trunk in case of said accident 🙂

Blankets

These are perfect for unexpected chilly weather, to get cozy in the car or to use for a picnic! We always keep 2 Mexican Blankies and have used for all of the above!

First Aid Kit (and any Necessary Medication)

A Human First Aid Kit is always important to keep in the car for people and will suffice for your dog until you can get to any needed medical care. You never know when you might need it. If your dog takes medication – take it with you just in case.

We have this First Aid Kit in our trunk:
