They are so dog friendly that the Lake Havasu Visitor Center website has a page on their website dedicated for pet friendly vacations! “Lake Havasu City is…the kind of place where all visitors are welcome, including man’s best friend. We like to share the sunshiny goodness that is Lake Havasu City with everyone, and if that includes a canine companion or two, all the better“.

Before hopping in your doggy vehicle for PawCation at Lake Havasu, there are a few things you need to be aware of when visiting Arizona with your pup…

Can a Dog’s Paws Burn on Hot Pavement?

Arizona temperatures can get very hot quickly! According to the BCSPCA, Surfaces such as pavement, asphalt and artificial grass can become searingly hot causing blisters or burns on their paw pads as air temperatures rise.  Dog and Cat paws are extremely sensitive and can burn on these hot surfaces!

Hot pavement can also increase the overall body temperature of your pet and lead to heat stroke. A good rule of thumb is to avoid these surfaces on warm and hot days and walk on real grass or dirt trails only and wear dog shoes if necessary! Test the ground your dog will be walking on yourself! If you can’t walk barefoot don’t allow your pets to! Please check with your vet and the BCSPCA page for more tips and advice on protecting your pet’s paws!

Does Arizona Have a Leash Law?

Arizona is very similar to California in that all dogs must be on a 6 foot leash when not in their own yard. Dogs also need to be licensed which includes up to date rabies vaccinations. We also recommend that you take your dog to the vet to make sure their microchip is working (a microchip can really save the day if your pet gets lost but they do need to be checked periodically).

We also like wearing our custom, personalized dog collars with engraved buckles from MimiGreen as an additional form of identification. Tip: Be sure to include your cell phone (not home phone) on your dog’s ID! (P.S. Use our free code Scooby15 to get 15% off your order at MimiGreen)! They have several Waterproof Dog Collars that we have our eyes on for Summer!

How Do You Go on Holiday with a Dog?

It is always a good idea to do some initial research and planning before going on any Pawcation! This allows you to find a variety of things that interest you ahead of time do you can create a wishlist of options – just in case you need to switch things up last minute!

We helped Mom create the PERFECT size PawVentures® (our brand!)Travel Journal to help you (and us) plan and document your PawCation! Just research your area and write down your “wishlist” of things to do and see! There are sections where you can even list your favorite things of the day (smells, sounds, food, views, etc.) while everything is fresh in your mind so you can be immediately transported back in time furever when you pick up your journal!
