The 7 Best Picnic Spots near Dana Point

Scooby at his Favowite Picnic Shelter at Laguna Niguel Regional Park

It’s SUMMER in April! Time for packing a picnic and heading out to some of the most beautiful places in So. OC! Blue sky, water views, birds singing, good food and relaxing with my Mom…..now that’s what I call a great Spring Day!

My favorite spots (in no particular order):

1. Salt Creek Beach Park, Dana Point
Grassy Hills, Picnic Tables, a concessions stand (open in the Summer), water fountains and an ocean breeze! Bring a blanket or beach chair or grab a picnic table and enjoy the ocean show!

2. Doheny State Beach Park, Dana Point
Big Grassy park, picnic tables, water fountains with delicious Boneyard Cafe on the premises – all right next the beach.  How can you go wrong?

3. Treasure Island Beach – at the Montage, Laguna Beach
Considered one of the most beautiful beach parks in So. OC, The Montage at Laguna Beach is ranked one of the most beautiful beach views in the world! Rocky cliffs, flower gardens, grassy park, picnic tables, park benches and water fountains overlooking the beach and even a dog-friendly beach – wow! Please check Laguna Beach regulations for times pups are allowed on the sand through the year.

4. Laguna Niguel Regional Park, Laguna Niguel
Well, as you can see by my posts, Mom and I spend may weekends at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. We get our “water” fix plus the bonus of tons of birds. Geese, Egrets, Osprey, Hawks, Bluebirds and many other birds live or migrate through here on a consistent basis. There are plenty grassy spots and picnic tables throughout the whole park.

5. Dana Island at Dana Harbor, Dana Point
Grassy areas and picnic tables are lined up next to the water up and down the island. Love it!

6. Blue Jay Campground, Cleveland National Forest, Lake Elsinore
Just a short drive into the Cleveland National Forest Mom and I love the “getaway” mountain feeling of this rustic campground. Picnic tables and birds are the attraction here!

7. Los Rios Park, San Juan Capistrano
I love this dog-friendly historic district. The cute little park offers flowers and birds (and sometimes horses passing through) and is a great place to relax. There are several dog-friendly restaurants just across the way. The best of both worlds!
