Dog Friendly June Lake California
The June Lake Loop is amazingly scenic from late May to Early October – which is the perfect time to go with your pup! In late May (and perhaps early June) you will most likely still see snow-capped mountains, waterfalls (from snow melt) and rising creeks and lakes ready for fishing!
June Lake Directions
We recommend that you drive to the Northern most entrance to the June Lake Loop for the most picturesque entrance into the quaint town of June Lake. Head 20 miles North of Mammoth up Highway 395 CA and you will find this beautiful Eastern Sierra destination! (Go to theScoobylife Interactive Map for Directions)! Or, use theScoobylife Google Map
June Lake Weather
The weather fluctuates particularly in May and October (and throughout the Summer) so pack layers, socks, hats, scarfs, boots and blankies for all as backup!

Lodging June Lake CA
June Lake Cabins
Double Eagle Resort and Spa
We WUVED our stay at Dog Friendly Double Eagle Resort and Spa! Our Cabin was waterfront of Ron’s Pond with a view of snow-capped mountains from our deck and the sounds of multiple waterfalls behind us. Wowza!
The property is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon stroll. We saw small groups of deer in the early mornings and a local “known” coyote from a distance. The coyote was gorgeous but we are happy he kept his distance!
We also made some bird friends…..a Stellar’s Jay, Robin and a Mallard Duck couple came to eat lunch with us every day along with a friendly rabbit!
Double Eagle Resort is situated on a beautiful, peaceful property with streams running throughout and quiet gravel roads where you often see deer early in the morning! There’s also plenty of bird watching! If that wasn’t enough, there’s even an indoor pool and a full service spa so you can relax to the max!
The Four Seasons June Lake Cabins
We have not stayed here but it looks pretty cool! A couple of their A-Frame Cabins are designated Dog Friendly too!
Camping June Lake
If Mom camps she Glamps – haha. But, typically we look for an amazing Dog Friendly Cabin, Cottage, Historic Home, Tiny House or something unique when we go on PawVentures®.
During our Eastern Sierra PawCations we’ve stopped at several amazing view areas which also happen to be areas next to Dog Friendly Camping in June Lake! According to Recreation.Gov your pet is welcome at the these June Lake Campgrounds for Tent, Trailer and / or RV Camping June Lake CA.
Please check online for availability, reservation and registration information and rules! Keep reading for more info on RV Camping June Lake style!
June Lake Campground at June Lake (Inyo National Forest)
Tip: Make sure you check out all of the Dog Rules before visiting June Lake. Dogs are not allowed in certain areas and the asphalt and sand can get VERY hot at this altitude in the Summer Months specifically.
Warning: Apparently there’s such a thing as a “Meat Bee” and Mom got a stinger in her back when one flew into the Scoobymobile and hung out on the backrest of her seat when she was taking photos! She didn’t see it when she got back into the car and leaned right against it!
Meat Bees are actually Yellow Jackets and according to Mom…BOY! Do they hurt if you get stung! The Ranger at the station was kind enough to look at the sting and direct us to the local fire department where they sprayed some pain reliever on it until we could get to a pharmacy. So, be on the lookout for Yellowjackets in this area!
Silver Lake Campground June Lake (Inyo National Forest)
Silver Lake in June Lake is one of our FAVORITE lakes in the Eastern Sierra! Every time we are near the north entrance of the June Lake Loop we drive up to Silver Lake June Lake Campground to enjoy the scenery! This little slice of heaven can be yours for camping if you get your reservations!
Oh Ridge Campground June Lake (Inyo National Forest)
Scooby and Mom drove through this area on a very unseasonably hot, late May morning. It is beautiful but we need to go back to thoroughly enjoy the views of June Lake!
P.S. This campground is near the “Meat Bee” incident above! So, be on the lookout for Yellowjackets before you lean against anything!
Reversed Creek Campground (Inyo National Forest)
We just “officially” found out about Reversed Creek Campground! We’ve been nearby plenty of times and we can’t wait to visit it!
Fun Fact: Why is it called Reversed Creek? “A basin which had been carved out just west of the ridge is filled with spring water, creating June Lake and nearby Gull Lake. “The overflow from these spring-fed lakes flows back toward the mountain range and thus is named Reversed Creek“. Source: Wikipedia
Gull Lake Campground June Lake
We’ve “frequented” the area around Gull Lake Campground plenty but have never “toured” it! Gull Lake certainly is beautiful so it should be Pawesome!
Grant Lake Campground June Lake
We’ve never camped here but we stop and Grant Lake every time we’re in the Northern Eastern Sierra just for this visit! The colors in the early mornings are gorgeous with Crater Mountain as the backdrop!
Eastern Sierra Camping
We think this Map by the Eastern Sierra Sustainable Recreation Project is AMAZING! Here you can find more details on specific Eastern Sierra Campgrounds, search for BLM Land and Dispersed Camping areas AND learn how to Camp Like a Pro! Eastern Sierra Camping on BLM Land takes preparation and this site will help you tremendously! Mammoth Lake Trails and Public Access offers more information about the Mammoth Trails System as well!
Our Favorite Things to Do
If you LOVE nature, there are plenty of dog-friendly things to do in June Lake and the surrounding area!
June Lake Hikes
There are endless places for Hiking in June Lake at random! Just park, walk, hike and explore! Pack plenty of water for you and your pup and opt for paths with frequent shade options! The sun in altitude can suddenly get quite hot for June Lake Hiking so if you feel your dog may be hot, stop, cool off and go back! We prefer to meander to keep cooler!
Alltrails has a curated list of hikes in the June Lake area. We recommend that you select easy trails first, then move to moderate if you think its a good fit for you and your pooch.
June Lake Boat Rentals
June Lake Marina
Here you can rent motorized boats, pontoons, kayaks and canoes – many if not all are dog friendly! Call ahead and discuss your specific details!
The Marina is a perfect place to sit and have a snack and watch the boats (and sometimes Eagles).
Big Rock Resort, Gull Lake Marina and Grant Lake Marina all rent boats too!
You can find more details about boat rentals here. Be sure to confirm that your pup is welcome ahead of time so you have zero surprises!
Silver Lake Resort also rents boats. Again, be sure to confirm that your pup is welcome!
Important Note: Lakes in the Eastern Sierra are deep and can be extremely treacherous due to extremely cold temperatures, sudden winds and undertows. If you’re taking a boat out both humans and dogs should be wearing a life jackets! Dog Life Jackets (NOT a Dog LIfe Vest) are more bouyant for easier visibility and to help them float should they need it! Dog Life Jackets should also have a sturdy handle on top across their back, a D-Ring and should fit snug so your dog does not slip out of if (but not extremely tight). Ruffwear makes one of the highest rated Dog Life Vests available per customer reviews:
Fishing in June Lake
Whether you’re boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking or plain ol’ relaxing at any of the lakes or marinas it’s a perfect time to fish! Check the Mono County Fishing Rules and Regulations page before you go so you are prepared! You can purchase your Fishing License online and follow various Fishing Reports for June Lake here and here! Or, if you’re like Mom you can “Catch” your fish with your camera!
Bird Watching
Bald Eagles, Mallards, Stellar Jays, Osprey, Robins, Turkey Vultures, Blackbirds, to name a few, seem to really love June Lake! Pack your camera, binoculars, a picnic or snacks and water for all and set out to peep some birds! Check eBird to see which birds have been sighted most recently!
Insider info: A pair of Eagles nest, fish and raise their chicks near June Lake Marina! Bonus, the Marina has snacks, drinks and fun June Lake Souvenirs!
Photograph Nature!
The Eastern Sierra has inspired artists, writers and photographers such as John Muir and Ansel Adams for starters! Everything about the Eastern Sierra Scenery – the Birds, Deer, Snow Covered Mountains, Lakes, Waterfalls, Fall Colors etc is waiting for you! June Lake certainly doesn’t disappoint in beauty! All levels of Photographers, Painters, Writers, Poets and creatives will understand when you take it all in!
Tip: Grant Lake is a great place to park early in the morning, walk around and take in the Picturesque views of Mono Valley to the East. Then head home for coffee and brekkie!
Day Trip!
If you’ve never been, we HIGHLY Recommend you visit some of our favorite nearby destinations if you have time while staying in June Lake. We’ve marked them in our Scoobylife Dog Friendly Map!
Our Top pics include:
- Bodie the Ghost Town (head out early in the morning to beat the noon scorching heat)!
- Mono Lake
- Lundy Lake
Just Relax in the Shade by a Lake!
One of our Favorite things to do is to pack a picnic, plenty of water, camping chairs, dog blankets and a good book – and even a fishing pole and RELAX! Silver Lake is by far our favorite off property location.
June Lake Restaurants
June Lake Pizza
There’s no good space for you and your dog here but, if you like New York Style Pizza, June Lake Pie is a great place to order a pizza and enjoy on your cabin deck or at your Campsite with your pup!
June Lake Brewery
The Brewery is no longer Dog Friendly but Mom thinks no trip to the Eastern Sierra is complete without enjoying the local breweries! Plus, we prefer the views at our cabin! So, grab yourself some cans or a growler to go and relax at your PawCation Headquarters!
Tip: If you have fwiends who enjoy beer, Mom likes to buy a couple of growlers on the day we leave and pop them into our Favowite Thermoelectric Cooler for cars and deliver brewskies to our fwiends when pull into town! Everybawdy gets a taste of the Eastern Sierra – Yippee!
Fall Colors in June Lake
June Lake Fall Colors are AMAZING in early October – especially when you enter June Lake Loop at the Northernmost entrance! The areas around Silver Lake are especially a treat for leaf peepers! We always make sure to drive up to Silver Lake anytime we are in the Eastern Sierra in early October!
Follow the Mono County Fall Color Report and download your Fall Color Guide so you don’t miss the Best of the Best in Fall Foliage in and around June Lake!
Tip: We also love the drive up to Lundy Lake for Fall Colors!
