Rolling up Highway 395 To Convict Lake

We made it!  Mom packed the car in unusually humid Beach weather this morning and we drove through mild to hot to cold, rainy and super windy weather at Convict Lake!  Overall, it was an easy ride with light traffic so Mom and I sang to lots of her favorite tunes in the car 🙂

We checked in around 3:15 at the General Store.  It looked pretty cool with LOTS of food, wine, beer and fishing items for Humans.  Mom packed me soooooo many doggy treats that we really don’t need anything other than a light bulb that’s missing in the den.  We really wanted to get the car unloaded due to the cold rain & wind so we’ll go back tomorrow  – hopefully the crazy weather will have moved on!  And………true to form, I inaugurated our vacation with an altitude barf.  This time Mom saw it coming so I didn’t get to christen the car, deck or cabin!  Darn.  I made it out to the driveway so she was happy!

Convict Lake has lots of super interesting history.  We are at 7850′ in elevation which, is lower than all of our Summer trips, but it’s super pretty.  We are further North of Rock Creek and Bishop Lakes by appx 80 miles.  We are very close to Tamarack Lodge – google maps says it’s 13 miles. Check here for more info.

Also, lots of Movies were shot at Convict Lake – including Nevada Smith starring my Fav Manly man, Steve McQueen!  We REALLY want to watch it – especially since our last name is SMITH, it’s hard to find.  Instead, Mom says we are going to watch the movie starring Convict Lake during our trip…..I can’t wait!!!
