Borrego Springs has become one of our favorite destination during Southern California’s spring, late fall and winter – and Dark Sky weeks! The Milky Way, Perseid Meteor Showers…we’re in!
A quick word of caution: Summer temperatures here can be dangerously hot for both people and pets. Unless you’re staying somewhere with reliable air conditioning and a pool, we don’t recommend visiting with your pup during the summer months. Sadly, every year beloved pets are injured or lost to the desert heat, and we’d love to help prevent that from happening.

A Glimpse into Borrego Springs History
Long before Borrego Springs became a beloved desert destination for us furSmiths, its landscape was shaped by Indigenous communities, early explorers, ranchers, hopeful gold miners and homesteaders.
Historic maps allow us to trace how roads, place names, and settlements changed as the region evolved through the decades. Every map tells a story, and those stories are the true treasure. We hope you’ll find them as fascinating as we do.
