THAT my Fwiend is the million dollar question of da week (and month) every year in June! We just came home from another AMAZING “Summer” vacation at Tamarack Lodge in Mammoth Lakes! It didn’t actually start feeling “summery” until Wednesday (June 21)! But, Summer FINALLY seems to have made it’s appearance in Mammoth Lakes as some of the lakes and campgrounds are still thawing! So, Is Lake Mary Road in Mammoth Open?
Record making snowfall this year kept eager campers, hikers, fishermen and fisherwomen on alert throughout our June 18-23 PawCation! As of June 21, Lake Mary Road to Lake Mary, Lake Mamie, Horseshoe Lake, Lake George and the rest of the Mammoth Lakes is currently open to pedestrians and bicycles only. Lake Mary Road is mostly clear but as the high snow walls on the sides of the road melt each day, they turns to ice overnight. So, early mornings and late afternoons become slippery and dangerously icy.
As of June 26, 2023, Lake Mary Campground and Twin Lakes Campground are not open yet either. Estimated allowance for vehicles is anticipated after July 6 with campsites possibly opening July 14. It’s best to watch campground’s website for new announcements and the USDA Forest Service Website for the most up to date details for road openings.
Lake Mary Marina is open for Fishing and Boat Rental as of Friday, June 23 according to their website! Please call in advance to confirm. You will need to walk or bike to the marina.
Rock Creek Lake is open but the road to the lake remains closed. So you will need to plan accordingly!
If you’re heading to the Eastern Sierra, reserve a campsite at any available Mammoth Lakes RV Camping location asap! Even if you can’t get to higher lakes, there’s still plenty of lakes and streams open! We HIGHLY recommend FIshin’ Trails and Fishin’ Trails 2 book gift sets written by our Fwiends Jared and Seth at Parcher’s Resort to find super cool trails, streams and lakes!
Currently, Twin Lakes at Mammoth is open but crowded during the day due to the Lake Mary Road Closure. Convict Lake, Lake Crowley, Silver Lake near June Lake and many other lakes and streams are open for lots of summer fun!
