It’s FALL Y’all! Yep…It’s already October! Can you believe it? Is it feeling like Fall where you live? Some local tree colors are changing and it’s slowly beginning to feel like Fall in So Cal! Ironically, October days are typically some of the hottest of the year! Mom jokes that Summer starts in late September in Southern California! The early mornings and evenings ARE markedly cooler which is a sign that Fall is upon us! If you’re like us furSmiths, you’re ready for some fun-filled, Dog Friendly Fall Foliage Leaf Peepin!
Is Autumn a Season?
Autumn is the more formal name for the Fall Season which occurs between summer and winter when temperatures gradually decrease. It is often called Fall in the US because leaves fall from the trees during this season.
In Europe, Autumn is historically connected with the harvesting of crops and the many festivals around the harvests! Animals gather and store food in Autumn to prepare for winter and the furry ones grow thicker coats. Many birds migrate to warmer climates during Fall. A common Autumn term is Indian Summer when unseasonably warm weather may occur in late October or November. (We experience this every October)!
Autumn Color Palette
The Autumn Color Palette contains warm greens, golden yellows, orangey reds and lots of golden browns. The rich and vibrant tones of Trees with Fall Colors have long inspired the Fall Colors Palette of food, beauty, fashion, home decor and more!
Autumn Poems
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves”.
John Muir, 1898

Fall Colors California
The BEST Fall Colors in California according to us furSmiths is…any guesses? The Eastern Sierra of Course! Fall Colors begin around the first week of October in the highest altitudes (near Parchers Resort in Bishop, Rock Creek and the higher trails) then work their way to the lower valleys along the 395 Highway by mid October. The trick is to get there before the winds blow all the leaves off!
We recommend you pick your Dog Friendly Cabin as your Basecamp and take day trips from Lone Pine to Lundy Lake (and Bodie)! You can find ALL of our FAVORITE Dog Friendly Cabins and Destinations on our Scoobylife Dog Friendly Map!
