What? Oh no! Uncle Jared and Fwiend Seth from Parchers Resort in the Eastern Sierra announced that starting September 1, 2021 they will be closed indefinitely! OMG WHY? California currently has at least 16 wildfires burning hundreds of thousands of acres near or in National Forests! We mourn our beloved forests, nature and wildlife once again and pray for everyone’s safety. With fire and smoke hazards (along with public safety) as a top concern, we are sad to confirm that California National Forests are Closed Again!
How Many National Forests are in California?
California has 17 National Forests plus a special management unit at Lake Tahoe. California National Forests are present throughout the entire State of California. You can find a complete list of National Forests on the USDA Forest Service Website. For more information about the California wildfire locations check the USDA Forest Service Region 5 Home Page. If you are planning a hiking, camping or vacation in or near a National Forest please check their website or call them to make sure they are open!
National Forests in California Map
Our FAVORITE PawVentures® are in National Forests which are densely located in one of our favorite places…the Eastern Sierra. California has some of the most beautiful terrain in the world ranging from coast lines and amazing cliff lines to Mount Whitney which is the highest Mountain in the US! We see the top of Mount Whitney on every trip to the Eastern Sierra! To see exactly where all the National Forests are located in California (and the rest of the US), visit the Forest Service Interactive Map and look for the areas colored in green.
How Long Will California National Forests Be Closed?
Typically the USDA Forest Service waits until fires are significantly contained and for conditions for new fires to be significantly lowered before allowing tourists in. Currently the Forest Service has not given an estimate if and when these forests will re-open. If you recall, our 2020 Fall Foliage trip to the Eastern Sierra was cancelled due to fires but reopened just a couple of days before Fall Foliage began! We will post when California National Forests re-open so check back! Be sure to visit the Forest Service Websites to get the latest announcements by the Forest Service as well!
