“OFF” Seasons are the BEST Seasons to visit our Favorite California Destinations!
Eastern Sierras
Summer Through Fall (May thru end of October) are the BEST seasons to vacation in the Mountains with your Pup because:
- No frozen paws!
- Longer Days to spend outside by lakes, creeks and porch before the sun sets (then it’s Brrrrrr)!
- Cabin availability is the best Summer through Fall. Exception: Peak Fall Foliage is late September to mid October – make your reservation in advance! Even though the best cabins and campgrounds may fill up, you won’t feel “crowded” during Fall Foliage Season at all!
- Mom says to mention all the Massive Stars in the sky after 10:30pm in the Summer! (I’m in snoozville but, the pics look awesome)!
Central Coast
Alternatively, Winter through Spring (November thru Early May) is the best time to visit the Central Coast because:
- No Sunburns or doggy over-heating!
- The Central Coast has the most pleasant weather overall (not too hot in Santa Barbara / San Luis Obispo area and not too “chilly” in the Carmel / Monterey area).
- The least crowds! A little tip….don’t go during Spring break!
- Campgrounds, AirBnB’s and Cabin availability is the best during Winter / Spring.
Last but not least…my home South Orange County.
We have awesome weather all year long! Summers get pretty hot during the day so, we do any outdoor adventures early in the morning (finish by 10am) or late in the afternoon (after 6pm). Spring, Fall and Winter are amazing in South OC. The weather is typically fantastic, less overall heat and lots of cool breezes. Plus, less crowds! Yippee! More space, more nature and more time just chillin’ with my Mom :).
Note: If you do happen to come during a really warm time, consider giving your pup an AC break at Zuri Pet Spa in nearby San Juan Capistrano. They can even pick up and deliver your pet if you schedule in advance. Make sure your pup is up-to-date with all of their vaccinations before you visit, send them to Zuri and confirm you are cleared for Spa Day / Pup Camp before you leave home.
I hope to see you out there on Pup-cantion!
